On the day of your first appointment with us at Torque Orthodontics, you may feel a little nervous, but don’t worry. Our friendly team here in Mackay love welcoming new patients to our clinic so they will make you feel comfortable as soon as you step through the door!

First things
first

We’re located in Gordon Street, Mackay so there is plenty of parking around. We do ask that you arrive 10 minutes early to your first appointment as there is some paperwork our administrative team will ask you to fill out. Once you’ve completed this, one of our treatment coordinators will escort you and/or your child to a consultation room for your consultation with our orthodontist, Dr Peter Monckton.

What happens at this appointment?

At this consultation, our objective is to be able to look at the long-term needs for you and/or your child. Based on our assessment of your teeth, one of three outcomes will be identified:

Treatment is needed now.
Treatment is not needed.
Treatment will be needed, but the timing is such that it should be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption, or other factors are monitored and reconciled.

Digital photos, x-rays and other records will be taken and used by our orthodontists to determine your treatment needs (or your child's).

Your initial consultation

We also want to use this initial consultation as an opportunity for us to get to know each other. If you proceed with orthodontic treatment, we’ll be seeing each other regularly over the next 12 to 18 months so it’s nice to form a good relationship!

We also want to know why you’re considering orthodontic treatment, what you want to achieve from it, and what concerns you have about your teeth or smile. This is a chance for you to ask our team any questions you have about treatment, their experience, why they enjoy working here and whether or not they’ve had treatment themselves!

Initial consultation

How long
will it take?

Your first appointment is an important one so it usually takes about an hour. During this time we will review your dental history, collect any necessary digital photographs and digital x-rays that we need, complete a thorough orthodontic examination, discuss any orthodontic treatment options, create a custom treatment plan and review all financial information with you. We will also address any questions or concerns you may have.

Keep in mind, this is about you! Our team will do everything we can to make this process as seamless and easy as possible. Our goal is to have every new patient leave with a complete understanding of their orthodontic needs as well as a complete understanding of their payment options.
